Veganism against diabetes

A brief study conducted by the Physicians’ Committee for Responsible Medicine (Preventive Medicine, 8/99) proposes a low-fat vegan diet enriched with cereals, vegetables, legumes and fruits in order to improve control of blood glucose levels.
Patients with diabetes- type 2, who have consumed vegan diet for 12 weeks, have succeeded in decreasing blood glucose levels by 28%, compared with 12% of patients who have consumed the standard, low-calorie diet.
Also, people who have chosen vegan diet, reduced their body weight by about 50%, and some have even managed to reduce or completely eliminate their need for medication for diabetes.
